I’m at a weird point in my twenties where my skin seems to be changing – it’s getting more dry and sensitive, and I’ve noticed that my breakouts have changed a lot, too. I’m needing to use twice as much moisturiser as I normally would, and sometimes it feels like I need to exfoliate twice a day just to keep a relatively smooth surface complexion.
Is this normal for 26? I’m assuming it is, however with PCOS anything is really possible, so I’m not overly surprised that my skin seems to have changed drastically.
Because of these changes in my skin, I’ve started incorporating a few new products to see if a change in what I’m using on my face will make any difference. I wanted to share the new products I’ve been trialling this month with you here on the blog, so here they are!
Regular readers of the blog will know how much I love Lush’s Celestial Moisturiser – it’s the best I’ve ever used, hands down. I ran out of it a couple of weeks ago and, since we have no Lush stores near us, had to pick up something from the chemist. Switching up my usual line of products is something that’s quite scary for me, and I think that anyone who has acne prone skin will understand that fear. I ended up grabbing Sukin’s Facial Moisturiser on a whim and have been using it ever since! I think what I love most about it is the price point – it’s crazy affordable – and as my skin has needed more moisture than normal lately, my heavy use of Celestial was getting a little expensive. I love that I can apply twice the amount that I normally would and not have to make an online order every two weeks for more. The only downside I would say is that it doesn’t leave my face feeling *quite* as soft as Celestial did, however that might also be another side effect of my skin changing quite drastically towards the end of last year.
Because my skin got so dry at the end of last year, I ended up purchasing Weleda’s Skin Food to see if that would make a difference when combined with my usual moisturiser. All I can say is – do not use this stuff on your face if you have acne prone skin. Oh my god, this made me break out in the worst way possible. Within a week of using it, about ten painful spots arrived on my face and *would not leave*. I also noticed that it didn’t really moisturise my skin at all – it just left a thick layer of product on my face and never actually made it softer or more supple, but maybe that’s because it was causing quite a lot of irritation. I have started using it on my chronically dry feet, though, and it works a charm for that.
Now, back to Lush. Every year, without fail, I buy their Bûche de Noël cleanser and absolutely *love* the way it makes my skin feel. It’s got a bunch of wonderful ingredients alongside a splash of brandy in it, and it honestly makes my sensitive skin so.damn.happy. I wish they’d bring it out year-round, as I’ve just finished my Christmas tub and don’t really know what to do with myself now? I’ve been trialling a few drugstore cleansers that I’m not super stoked with, so I might pick up something new and let you know how I go with it in the coming weeks.
As for eye cream, I’m almost finished my tub of the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado and it’s something I know I’ll be repurchasing until the end of time. It’s such a hydrating formulation and the tiny little tub lasts *forever*, so it’s great value for money, too. Fun fact: you guys seem to like this product too, as it’s the most used search term on agirlandgrey.com. There’s just something about avocado eye cream that we can’t seem to get enough of!
I always like to switch out the products I use from The Ordinary, and this months line-up are the Resveratrol + Ferulic Acid, the Lactic Acid and the Hyaluronic Acid. I think the combination of a strong antioxidant, chemical exfoliant and hydrating molecule are working wonders for restoring my skin and making it look as healthy as possible. I don’t use the same combination of products everyday because sometimes I feel like my skin needs more hydration or more exfoliation, but I do use each product at least four times a week which seems to make an improvement!
And, if you follow me on instagram, you’ll know how much I love my Face Halo Makeup Remover Pads. I use them for taking off my makeup (no makeup remover necessary!) but I also love using them to remove face masks and my cleanser if I’m masking or cleansing without showering afterwards. They’re just like the perfect little essential skincare item that I think I need to buy 50 more of so I can hold off doing laundry for just that bit longer…
