After a few months of consistent gel manis, I realised my nails were in awful shape. They were peeling, splitting and extremely soft, and if I’m being frank, they were downright spongy.
I did some research into gel manicures and found out that they aren’t exactly fab for your nails. I mean, I kind of knew that already, but I really enjoyed the way they made my nails look. Always put together and less likely to break, at least while the gel polish was still intact. I think because my nails have always been on the weaker side, they were more susceptible to degeneration and harsh products. After four rounds of non-stop gel manis, I’d put myself in a position that even pulling wet clothes out of the washing machine started to become a seriously painful problem.
I wanted to buy some products that would make my nails look ‘done’, while at the same time restoring them back to their natural state. I did a little online shopping and came across the Essie Care range. Bingo!
I grabbed three products that sounded up my street, and after just two weeks of using them, I knew I had to share them with you guys. They’re so fab. SO fab. And they’ve helped my nails grow longer and stronger with minimal fuss, which I love.
So if your nails are suffering post-mani, or are just not as healthy and strong as you’d like them to be, can I recommend trying out these products? They’re honestly so fab, and I also find the nail care routine to be much less tedious when you’re using products that actually work.
Aside from this oil smelling incredible, it also makes your cuticles and the skin surrounding them super soft and juicy. I like to use this at night after I’ve applied moisturiser to my hands and nails. I use a cuticle stick to gently push my cuticles back, before applying a small dot of the cuticle oil to each cuticle and rubbing it into each nail for a few seconds.
This base coat is the only one I’ve found that never peels off. I’ve used so many in my lifetime, and they either peel or chip off within a few days. This stuff stays on your nails forever, or until you remove it with some polish remover. I like to apply it once every week or so, after removing the previous layer and dousing my nails in cuticle oil. It makes my nails feel stronger almost instantly, and prevents them from splitting while I’m trying to grow them out, and I love that it has ginko, vitamin e and minerals infused in the formula.
At first, I was a little unsure about this product. I noticed it had a slightly iridescent sheen to it and I’m not a super glittery person, so I wasn’t convinced. I bought it anyway and I’m so glad I did. I got the shade Sheers To You, and it adds the most natural pink colour to my nails without suffocating them. The iridescent sheen is actually brilliant too, because from semi-far away, it makes my nails look like they’ve been done at the salon. Only up close can you see that I’m not wearing proper nail polish, and you can still see the natural colours of my nails underneath. It also adds an extra level of strength to my nails, which is something they’ve been needing post gel mani incident.
